The Nokia N8 is the new flagship smartphone from Nokia, intended to compete with the best offerings from Android, Microsoft and Apple. It features a huge 3.5 inch glass capacitive OLED touchscreen and runs the new Symbian 3 operating system.
Physically, the Nokia N8 is very impressive. The sleek, thin metal body feels expensive and hard-wearing. The screen on the N8 is made using the impressive gorilla glass technology, making it almost impervious to chips and scratches. The N8 packs a 12 megapixel camera with Xenon flash that can rival a dedicated compact camera for image quality, and the phone comes with a micro HDMI port so photos and videos can be viewed on a hi-def display. The Nokia N8 comes with 16GB of internal memory, but owners can increase this using microSD cards.
The Nokia N8 uses the Symbian 3 operating system, that has been significantly updated to better suit touchscreen devices. There are new home screens where widgets can be placed and better integration of contacts from multiple email accounts, plus support for Microsoft Exchange. The N8 has access to the Nokia Ovi Store, where further applications and games can be downloaded. The Nokia N8 comes with excellent 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, and the onboard GPS chip is well integrated with Google Maps and Nokia's own sat-nav software.
